Heard from Best Buy/geeksquad today. Good news is the hard drive isn't hosed like they'd previously thought. Bad news is some other essential part of the computer is (like the mainboard). So it's got to go in for deep servicing. They're going to pull all my data off the hard drive and put it on an external drive for me first, though.
So: yay for not losing data, boo for computer breaking.
also, managed to finish index that was almost lost when computer broke. only took 4 hours to catch up on lost work. that made me a little, well, tense.
but now most is good.
